TMS Maintenance

The Table Management System (TMS) manages the various drop-down lists throughout Advance.

What is a TMS Table?

TMS tables contain codes that appear in drop-down lists throughout Advance Web and Advance Windows.  Each table can have numerous codes and security can be set on each table as well as individual code within each table.

What is a Simple TMS Table?

Every TMS table is either simple or complex. Simple tables have been designed to define and verify which values are valid, and to enforce rules about which users are permitted to use certain values, but not others. Each simple table contains the following fields: table type, table code, long and short descriptions, owner usergroup code, hierarchy order, status, comment, use for awc ind, date added, date modified, operator name and user group. For example, the tms_degree_type table is a simple table because it simply contains codes and descriptions for each category of degree at your institution; no additional fields in this table are used to perform additional logic.

What is a Complex TMS Table?

In addition to the fields found in simple tables, complex tables contain fields that are used for calculations, flags, and switches in various operations and integrity checking procedures. For example, the tms_relationships table is complex because it contains additional fields that allow Advance to check, for example, that two entities being linked by a new relationship are of the appropriate gender and also to generate the correct reciprocal relationship.
