An entity is the most basic building block of Advance. An entity can be either a person or an organization. Each entity can be linked to any other entity in the system.
For example, the person entity, Henry Jones, can be linked to a person entity, Sam Jones, as a son; the organization entity IBM through employment; the person entity Margaret Smith as a spouse; and the person entity Bradley Smith with whom Mr. Jones once gave a joint gift in honor of his father-in-law.
The system will store all those links, in addition to the fact that Henry Jones loves golf, is a member of the First Team All-America Club and earns $120,000 annually. The Prospect tracking subsystem records the solicitor assigned to encourage The Jones Family Foundation to endow a scholarship, the specifics of the proposal made to the family and the details of the planned gift they actually sign a letter of intent to make.
For example:
Person Entity: John H. Smith
Organization Entity: The Smith Foundation
