A proposal is the connection between a prospect and the results of a successful solicitation. A proposal may be a formal solicitation or ask. It may describe a project and request funding for a grant. It may define terms and conditions for a trust, life income plan, or other planned gift. It may relate a bequest to the donor. Some proposals will be crafted specifically for the intended recipient (for example a proposal to establish an endowed fellowship with the proceeds from an estate), while others may be more generic and designed for presentation to more than one prospect. Such would be the case for a grant proposal that might be submitted to several funding agencies, revised and resubmitted, only to be rejected by one agency and funded by another.
Note: Appeals differ from proposals in that they are mass marketing solicitations, such as direct-mail and phone-mail. Appeals may be recorded for individual entities. Proposals are always linked to a prospect. If your organization uses programs, they may also be linked to one or more programs.
