Many institutions use the term suspect when discussing an entity identified as potentially having the capability and/or inclination to give a major gift or planned gift during some near-term future time period. Each organization or institution determines its procedure for initiating the solicitation of an entity based on evaluation, research, electronic screening, peer screening, and individual contact. You may decide not to elevate a suspect to prospect but rather to continue solicitation using appeals and segments within the context of the annual giving portion of your organization.
