What is a Prospect?

A prospect is an entity (organization or person) or combination of entities that are "flagged" because of their potential to make a notable gift. This entity may have been identified:

for cultivation and solicitation and/or staff assignment. In Advance you will define type and status codes that will be used to differentiate between entities that are suspects, prospects with a solicitation in progress and future prospects.

An entity can be designated in Advance as a prospect for the institution as a whole or as a program prospect for a specific time period, a specific program, or a specific campaign.

Each new prospect is automatically assigned a unique prospect ID number (different from the entity ID number).  As development staff collect data and cultivate the prospect, they can record all tasks and interactions associated with the cultivation of that prospect.  This structure also gives you the ability to retrieve and analyze data not only on current prospects but also on past prospects, thus enabling solicitation of the same entity any number of times, in any number of ways, and in combination with any other entities.

A prospect can be designated in the system as a prospect for the institution or as a prospect for a specific campaign, a specific program, or for a specific time period.
