Inquire vs. Maintain

Advance Web includes two display modes: Inquire and Maintain.

Inquire Mode

When Advance is in inquire mode, you can only view existing data; you cannot add or modify data. You can tell you are in Inquire Mode when the data fields and labels are on a solid white background and the cursor does not appear when you click in a data field. If your user account does not have maintain privileges, you will automatically be in inquire mode.

Maintain Mode

When you are in Maintain Mode, you can add data or modify existing data in a record, providing you have the proper access privileges. You can tell you are in Maintenance Mode when the data fields are enclosed in a box, the cursor appears when you click in a data field, or the Form Header displays maintenance functions (e.g., New, Save, Delete). If your user account has both inquire and maintain privileges, Advance will automatically put you in maintain mode.
